Packaging Shrimp for shipment during the Winter

by: Gabe Hernandez

I wanted to share how I pack my shrimp to ship overseas. I have a really high success rate using this method. All photos are in the order that the procedure requires. Very expensive shrimp are shipped using this method and therefore require such tedious care, especially when being shipped overseas.

I use a foam box to put the shrimp in, and also a regular box on the outside of it.

For 20 shrimp you want to use 5 breather bags (don't double them up) and fill them with 25% water in each bag, and add shrimp with moss or something for them to hold onto. Double tie your bags with 2 knots dont use rubber bands as they can break.

Inside the foam box I put a foil like paper that keeps the heat in the box.

I put crumbled news paper all around the inside of the box.

Put your 5 bags of shrimp inside on top of each other,. It is ok, they wont break. Then put more paper and foil on top.

Polk 3 holes in the lid with a pencil to allow some heat to escape incase it gets too hot and allows co2 out and O2 in so the heat-packs work.

Tape the heat-pack under the lid, but make sure you give the heat-pack a nice shake.

Tape the lid shut.

Take the big regular box and put some news paper at the bottom of it. Place your foam box inside of it.

Add crumbled newspaper around the foam box to keep it warm and to keep the foam box from bouncing around.

Put new paper on top of the foam box until nice and full.

Add 1 more heat pack under the box flap and tape off the box.

Use wrapping paper for the outside of the box to keep heat from escaping.

Good luck with your shipping.

Gabe.
